If we end up sitting still will we ever discover the meaning of life, do you think the search will be over if you think you can sit still?
Sitting still, is not necessarily a bad thing, we are often told to sit still and quieten our minds. I agree with this message, yet sitting and thinking that life has to come to you, well I do not endorse this philosophy. What is the meaning or search behind this all? |

Well the X in my headline could represent a map of sorts, lost treasure, a place whereby you put your signature, to indicate you have done the work, or committed to something. Two weekends ago we ran the 2nd annual Africa X trail run, hosted by Stillwatersports, in the most scenic and beautiful part of Kleinmond. For me personally, the X this year represented a memory of my late farther, and the support and love he gave me, in knowing I love running and experiencing the world through the wonderful gift of sport. For my running partner her experience and joy was running the second day in under 5 hours. For the top leaders in all categories, there was the experience of not being able to run the 3rd day, because of dangerous winds and conditions. Another example was for the organizers, making the hard choice and feeling the experience of having to make the call about canceling the 3rd day. The list is endless. What does it all come down too? It is about hope and life, and the experience of feeling and seeing it all. The race will go on; next year there will be the 3rd running of Africa X trail race. Why? Because people want to breathe, live and experience life. Perhaps next year my partner will try and run that bit harder for her own experience, and run 5-10 minutes faster. Who knows how the top leaders will apply their tactics next year, perhaps they will run harder from the gun, and break records. Yet, let us all leave next year to unknown elements that life has in store for us, and concentrate on our past experience, and use it in the here and now. Let us find our X in life and discover the treasures we have in ourselves, which we are so capable to discover and to show them to the rest of the world. Let us apply this to ourselves and then to the rest of Africa, because we need to heal our own country first. If you loved the experience of running Africa X, and seen the beautiful possibilities, well then go forth and tell the next person, and they too, will try and experience what you have embraced.
Most of the coastal people are gearing up for a small break mid year in July, and are heading off to go and have a sporting festival at the annual Knysna Oyster festival. The half marathon is a MUST, and for the die-hard marathon runners, come and run the marathon with me. I have heard it is the second toughest marathon, but who cares, the scenery is explosive. A big MUST is, grab a few mates and if you have the opportunity, come and put a team together for the XTERRA race on the Thursday. It starts late afternoon, so no excuse to say you partied too hard the night before. There is no swimming involved, it is a run, mountain bike, run format, and it is within everybody’s capabilities.
So, stop in your tracks, do quieten your mind, and address your X in life, and plunge forward with enthusiasm into your next endeavor.
Yours in sport, Jorg Knorr. |
